Simple Present Tense

The Simple Present Tense is used:

(i) when we want to show a fact or truth.

Examples:

A dog barks.

The sun gives us heat and light.

Kangaroos live in Australia.

The elephant is the world's largest land animal.

Kittens are baby cats.

The grasshopper has a pair of feelers.




(ii) for actions that are done often or regularly. Therefore, words and phrases like often, usually, every day, every month, always, sometimes, frequently, etc. are often used in sentences which are written in the simple present tense.

Examples:

I go to school on foot every day.

James brushes his teeth every morning.

They play football very often.

My uncle usually visits our family on Saturdays.

Wendy watches a movie once a week.

Christians celebrate Christmas every year.
