Prepositions
Prepositions such as 'on', 'in', 'under' / 'below', 'above', 'beside', 'outside', 'behind', 'in front of' and 'opposite' are used to show position.
Examples:
On
The ball is on the table.
In
The ball is in the box.
Under / Below
The ball is under / below the table.
Above
The bulb is above the table.
Beside
The ball is beside the box.
Outside
The ball is outside the box.
Opposite
The hospital is opposite the library.
Behind
The ball is behind the box.
In front of
The ball is in front of the box.
The difference between ‘on’ and ‘above’
Look at the following sentences:1. The ball is on the table. 2. The bulb is above the table.
In the first sentence, the ball touches the table.
In the second sentence, the bulb does not touch the table.
